Description
3A molecular sieve, also referred to as zeolite 3A, is a type of aluminosilicate crystalline material composed of potassium and sodium. It features a uniform pore size of 3 angstroms (0.3 nanometers), which serves as a precise molecular sieve: only molecules with a kinetic diameter smaller than 3 angstroms can be adsorbed into its internal structure, while larger molecules are effectively excluded.
Chemically, it is represented by the formula K12[(AlO2)12(SiO2)]·XH2O, with a silicon-to-aluminum ratio (SiO2/Al2O3) approximately equal to 2. Its CAS registry number is 308080-99-1.
Renowned for its exceptional moisture-adsorbing capabilities, 3A molecular sieve is widely utilized as a drying agent across various industries. It plays a critical role in ethanol dehydration, where it efficiently removes trace water to produce high-purity ethanol for fuel, beverage and pharmaceutical applications. In the natural gas industry, it is employed to dehydrate natural gas, preventing the formation of hydrates and ensuring the safe and efficient transportation and processing of the fuel. Additionally, it is used in the dehydration of cracked gas in petrochemical refineries, as well as in the drying of refrigerants to maintain the performance and longevity of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
